APT 1 (1993): Opening and Public Programs

Opening

The official opening was attended by 2 600 guests. The Premier of Queensland, The Hon. Wayne Goss, MLA, officially opened the exhibition. His Excellency, Mr Sabam Pandapotan Siaglan, the Ambassador of Indonesia to Australia, was the keynote speaker at the official opening.

Conference

The international conference, held in the Queensland Cultural Centre Auditorium, was one of the highlights of APT 1993. 450 delegates from Australia and the Asia-Pacific region attended the conference where 38 speakers delivered papers. The conference was organised in association with the Centre for the Study of Australia-Asia Relations, Griffith University, Brisbane. No papers were published from the conference.

Education Program

An education kit was published in collaboration with the Queensland Education Department and distributed to every school in Queensland.

The Gallery engaged a number of specialists in Asian and Pacific culture from a variety of disciplines to contribute to the education program. Other components of the program included a seven-minute introductory video, a film program, a community day and Family Sundays (these events included tours, performances, workshops, films and children's films).
