APT 2002: Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art 2002

APT 2002: Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art was held from 12 September 2002 to 27 January 2003. It featured work by a core group of influential artists from the Asia-Pacific region who have challenged and shaped the course of contemporary art and modern culture over the past four decades - Yayoi Kusama, Nam June Paik and Lee U-fan. These works were supplemented by a younger generation of artists who have explored related ideas and themes.

Unlike earlier Triennials, which surveyed more than 70 artists each, APT 2002 focused on a substantial body of work by 16 artists and a performance collective. The exhibition occupied more than 80 per cent of the Gallery's display space, allowing each artist to be represented in depth.

A record 220 000 people attended APT 2002 to enjoy the opening events, public programs, Kids' APT and Summer Spectacular festival.
