APT 3 (1999): Opening Events and Public Programs

Conference

The APT 3 Conference was held in Brisbane from 10 to 12 September 1999 bringing together more than 700 international and Australian delegates and over 100 speakers. Papers from the conference were published as Beyond the Future: Papers from the Conference of the Third Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art.

Kids' APT

A new initiative, Kids' APT, captured the imagination of young visitors through interactive art works (specifically created for children by participating artists), workshops, a children's activity book, children's labels, and a special website, Kids' APT online. The artists who participated in Kids' APT were:

  • Cai Guo Qiang
  • N.S. Harsha
  • Xu Bing
  • Surasi Kusolwong
  • David Alesworth and Duriya Kazi

Heri Dono, Patrice Kaikilekofe and Michel Tuffery conducted Kids' APT workshops.

Visitors' Outreach Program

The Gallery organised a comprehensive International Visitors' Outreach Program that connected some 50 participating artists and curators with community groups, arts organisations and universities throughout Australia. The program involved a six-month program of residencies and visits.
