Genevieve Staines
December 2005 – March 2006
In 2004, Genevieve Staines was awarded the Queensland Art Gallery’s Hobday and Hingston Bursary, and the Griffith University Fine Art Medal. Her works in Starter Space focused on the site of Fort Lytton, a number of bunkers built on the Brisbane River in the late nineteenth century. Through subtly transforming images of the site — blocking up the doors, windows, vents and cracks in the architecture — Staines’s digital images enhance the impenetrable aura of the buildings.
