The past five years have been among the most exciting in the history of Indigenous Australian art. Indigenous artists from across the country have continued to find innovative ways to interpret their stories and experiences in an increasing range of mediums.
The Gallery has demonstrated its commitment to profiling Indigenous Australian art through collection development and display, exhibitions, programming, publishing and building strong relationships with Queensland’s Indigenous communities.
‘Across Country’ celebrates the Indigenous Australian art collection development since GOMA’s opening, by highlighting major acquisitions. Many of the acquisitions in this display have been made possible by the generous support of members of the public, donors and benefactors through the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation. This dynamic hang encompasses works from across country; from urban centres to the rainforests of northern Queensland, from the Tiwi Islands to the Pilbara, and from the Western Desert to the Torres Strait Islands.
