The Queensland Art Gallery presents two free audio tours to download to facilitate visits to ‘American Impressionism and Realism: A Landmark Exhibition from The Met’, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. One tour is presented for adult visitors, and one for children and families.

Audio tour for adults
Join us on a tour of highlights of ‘American Impressionism and Realism: A Landmark Exhibition from The Met’ an exhibition organised by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, in collaboration with the Queensland Art Gallery and Art Exhibitions Australia. In this exhibition you’ll see the work of some of America’s foremost painters of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Artists such as John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, Childe Hassam and William Merritt Chase to name but a few. By way of highlighting how Australian artists of the period responded to similar artistic concerns there are thirty (30) Australian paintings included in the exhibition.

Audio tour for children
The Met for Kids audio tour highlights eight art works that have been selected especially for children to find out more about the artists and art works in the exhibition. There are paintings of people, cities, beaches and the countryside by some of America’s most important painters of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and paintings by major Australia’s artists from the same time too. Children can also collect an art activity trail from the ticket desk and visit The Met for Kids activity space in the Pelican Pool Lounge for even more to see and do.
