The Foundation assists the Gallery by raising vital funding from individuals and the corporate sector, and through cultural gifts and bequests, to support the growth of the Collection and the presentation of exhibition programs.
Assisted by the Queensland Government, which contributes a matching subsidy on sponsorships and memberships received, the Foundation has raised more than $49 million for the Gallery since its establishment in 1979.
With the opening of the Gallery of Modern Art and the expansion of the Queensland Art Gallery to two sites, the role of the Foundation is to ensure the Gallery’s standing as a world-class art museum.
Members of the Foundation are eligible for tax incentives and participate in a program of special events designed to provide an enduring relationship with the Gallery.

The Gallery has two membership groups — the Queensland Art Gallery Foundation and the Friends of the Queensland Art Gallery. The Friends is an accessible and affordable way for people of all ages to join in Gallery activities.
